I read this book (the updated version) by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith about 9 months ago and the themes in the book have stayed with me. It is written in an engaging and informative style that makes it difficult to put the book down. It is one of the first books to address how social media can be successfully used by businesses to interact with their customers.
The authors reveal over a series of chapters that to be a successful Trust Agent needs:
- Standing Out
- Soft Skills
- Strength in Numbers
Each of the chapters contain actionable sidebars that provide guidance and thought provoking ideas on how to better develop each of the Trust Agent points. The end of the last chapter provides the reader with simple to implement steps to begin becoming a Trust Agent.
The following sentence from the end of the book really resonated with me – “But the point isn’t “collecting” information, it’s how it changes you – which is based on the actions you take about what you learn.” Too many people read a business or self-improvement book and then set it aside without thinking about the content or actually attempting to implement some of the ideas contained within its pages. I urge you not to do that with this book.
I recommend this book for those who are looking to build their base of potential customers via various social media channels and not trying to take the easy out that often leads to an expensive experiment in frustration.
